A Foolish Vow (#BrokenSeries Week 8)

A Foolish Vow (#BrokenSeries Week 8)

October 21, 2019

Be careful what you say!  We are certainly held accountable by our words. In this message from the Broken Series, Pastor Joey looks at Judges 11:29-40 as we witness Jephthah's foolish vow. Here is a man in whom the Spirit of the Lord was upon that still allowed the flesh and the culture to inform his behavior. God's Spirit doesn't guarantee good decisions. Only obedience can do that! As a result, what should have been a joyful victory celebration turned to sorrow. Lost in Jephthah's theology is grace! Grace allows God to repair our sinful behaviors. The LORD, The Judge (#BrokenSeries Week 7)

The LORD, The Judge (#BrokenSeries Week 7)

October 15, 2019

Same song, next verse. The Book of Judges reads like a tragedy, where people repeat disastrous behaviors time and time again. This story is familiar, however, to us all! It's the story of sin, slavery, and brokenness. In this message, Pastor Joey begins the look at Jephthah in Judges 11:1-29 as we discover an outcast, one rejected by men, who God enables to bring deliverance. It's a foreshadow (again) of Christ. We see Jephthah's boldness to protect Israel and call out deception. We also see the value of knowing and protecting history. Message preached on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at ParkerDC. The Skinny on Giving (2 Corinthians 9:1-15)

The Skinny on Giving (2 Corinthians 9:1-15)

October 7, 2019

In this message we take a brief break from our #BrokenSeries to look at the spiritual discipline of Biblical Stewardship and how it affects our faith and partnership in ministry. Pastor Joey looks at Paul's words in 2 Corinthians 9 as we see attitudes and motives for giving. We discover that giving is a HEART ISSUE. It requires us to look at God's resources and not merely our own. We even discover that the New Testament even affirms both the offering and the tithe. Giving is not about dollars and budgets. It's about our FAITH! It's an act of worship!  Message preached on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at ParkerDC. For more information about DC, visit us at www.dclivelove.com and be our guest this Sunday at 11 AM as we step back into the Broken Series in the Book of Judges.

Confusing Lordship (#BrokenSeries Week 6)

Confusing Lordship (#BrokenSeries Week 6)

September 30, 2019

It is the tendency of the sinful heart to defect from our weakness and believe that we are stronger than we really are! In this message from the Broken Series, Pastor Joey looks at Judges 8 and Gideon's pride that conflicts with his confession. After all that God has done to bring Gideon from his weakness and use Him mightily in destroying Midian and bringing deliverance to Israel, the hero forgets (functionally) that God is His strength.  His actions didn't align to his confessions! As a result, Gideon actually sets himself up as alternative source of God's Will, becoming an idol himself to Israel. Does our lives functionally declare of the Lordship of Jesus Christ or do we merely confess that truth?  Message preached on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at ParkerDC. Little Is Much (#BrokenSeries Week 5)

Little Is Much (#BrokenSeries Week 5)

September 23, 2019

It's certainly not "good military strategy", reducing your army from 32,000 to 300 to take on a force of 135,000 enemy soldiers! But little is much when God is in it! In this message from the Broken Series, Pastor Joey picks back up in the Gideon narrative in Judges 7 as we see the turning point for this timid leader. We learn that brokenness and weakness allow God the opportunity to receive glory in the outcome. We see how God calmed his fearful servant and how Gideon worshipped, declaring God's victory before the battle even begins! What excuses keep us from following God? How might God's power more than compensate for our weakness? Message preached on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at ParkerDC. But I Will Be With You (#BrokenSeries Week 4)

But I Will Be With You (#BrokenSeries Week 4)

September 16, 2019

God is not focused only on our present condition. He sees our future potential! In this message from the Broken Series, Pastor Joey begins the narrative of Gideon in Judges 6 as we find a man who is cowering in fear in a wine press, hiding from the Midianites. His excuses are no match for God's power, however. God's call negates weakness! We discover that God's Spirit empowers His children to do incredible things. The Spirit of God is the source of the Power of God! Spirit-led believers are powerful weapons in God's arsenal! Message preached on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at ParkerDC. Crazier Than A Box of Rocks (#BrokenSeries Week Three)

Crazier Than A Box of Rocks (#BrokenSeries Week Three)

September 10, 2019

The means of God's deliverance often comes from the most unexpected sources! In this message from our Broken Series in the Book of Judges, Pastor Joey looks at the story of Deborah, Barak, and Jael in Judges 4 as we see, once again, this cycle of sin that leads to brokenness in Israel. We witness God's Providence on display as He intervenes to bring salvation. When we move from broken to admittingly brokenness, we make room for God's Providence to be on display in our life too! Message preached on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at ParkerDC. For more info about DC, visit us at www.dclivelove.com and be our guest this Sunday at 11 AM as we continue in this series!

The Lord Raised Up (#BrokenSeries Week Two)

The Lord Raised Up (#BrokenSeries Week Two)

August 26, 2019

There is a difference between being broke and being broken. Brokenness is an awareness of our condition and a petition for help. In this second message from the Broken series, Pastor Joey looks at the first three judges in Judges 3. Othniel, Ehud, and Shamgar are interesting characters to say the least. Yet when Israel finally called out to God in their oppression, God raised up these men to bring deliverance. We cannot run and hide in our brokenness. Instead, we are to run to God and cry out to Him. The longer we exist in our broke narrative without repentance, the more devestating the consequences in our life! Healing and peace come through brokenness and repentance!  Message preached on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at ParkerDC. A Lost Generation (#BrokenSeries Week One)

A Lost Generation (#BrokenSeries Week One)

August 19, 2019

Boddie Baucham suggests, "Brokenness is the place to which we come when we recognize that all that we are, all that we have, and all that we do is and of ourselves is sorely and miserably insufficient... And God crushes us under the weight of our sin!"  Brokenness is seldom discussed in the modern church for it demands humility and self-awareness. But it is critical to repentance and restoration. In this pilot message from our new Broken Series in the Book of Judges, Pastor Joey looks at the spiritual condition of Israel in Judges 2 and discusses subjective moralism and the events that lead to an entire generation who did not know the LORD or His powerful acts of faithfulness. From a helicopter perspective, we discover the cycle of the Book of Judges, but also the cycle of brokenness in life. However, we need to remember that brokenness is the not the final outcome of God's grace in our life, but the turning point to restoration and peace. Message preached on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at ParkerDC.
