Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD! In this message from the Origins series, Pastor Joey looks at the saga of Noah in Genesis 6-7 and discovers how one man's faith was enacted in obedience to every command of God. In a world consumed by sin, Noah sticks out for His lifestyle of faith, his relationship with God. Obedience is the natural response to God's grace and it is the key to the Christian life! One faithful person! God has a way of taking one faithful, obedient individual and using that individual in His redemptive story! Will we be the one faithful and obedient person today amidst our culture as well? Message preached on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at ParkerDC. Be ready to advance. Be prepared. Be ready! The Armor of God, this incredible weaponry of spiritual defense, begins with putting on truth! Truth is a compromised word today in our culture. Subjective truth (at the whim of perspective and feelings) has destroyed our convictions in absolute and object truths. Paul's teaching in Ephesians 6 begins with "the belt of truth" (vs. 14) because it establishes the convictions of the warrior. It communicates the motive of the fight and the facilitates the other peices of the armor. To go into the battle without truth would most assuredly leave oneself vulnerable for the deceit, the lies of Satan. Join us next week as we continue in this study entitled, "This Is War" during our 6 PM ReNew Adult Bible Study at ParkerDC. This is a battleground, not a playground!
Sin has collateral damages. In this message from our Origins series in Genesis, Pastor Joey looks at Genesis 4:1-14 and the story of Cain and Abel. Cain allows sin to rule over him, instead of ruling over sin! We are either controlling temptation or allowing sin to control us! Cain attempts to substitute God's commands and stipulate God's standards for obedience and worship. As such, he begins down a self-destructive path. We too are guilty of the same behaviors. In our jealousy and anger, we self-destruct. We give Satan and little and he takes a mile! And, as a result, we are damaged and we damage others in our sin. There are serious corporate consequences to personal sin. All sin breaks fellowship with God and others! Message preached on Sunday, February 10, 2018 at ParkerDC. There is something else going on. Beyond merely the physical, there is a battle for our soul and our witness going on in the world! In this Wednesday Night series, Pastor Joey is looking at Ephesians 6 in correspondence with the Armor of God and the subject of spiritual warfare. In this episode, we learn of the origins of Satan, the great deceiver, and begin to understand some of his tactics. Ezekiel 28, Isaiah 14, and Revelation 12 provide us a glimpse into this spiritual history. We pray that this series helps awaken a spiritual army ready to stand firm against the Enemy and the forces of evil! Episode taught on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at ParkerDC. Join us next Wednesday as we begin to unpack the Armor of God and our weapons to combat evil in our life!
We don't take sin seriously. But God does! In this message from the Origins series in Genesis, Pastor Joey looks at Genesis 3 and the Fall of Man. We discover the treachery of Satan who deceives Adam and Eve by appealing to their pride that goes rogue. We see the snake question God's character and His Word. We see God's authority over moral judgments put to the test. And, ultimately, we find a compromised, broken world as a result of this original sin. Sin is the choice to not believe God and obey His commands. We are all plagued by it, for wer eare all sinners, born in rebellion against God. Thankfully, even in this text we find hints of God's great redemptive plan of Jesus. Message preached on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at ParkerDC. Is there something in you that desires the raw, untamed nature of the early church? We were created to live that way. Acts 1:8 promises that we would have the power of the Holy Spirit inside the believer to live fearlessly, boldly as followers of Jesus. But church services today rarely resemble anything like this. In this session, we discuss Chapter 8 and God's desire to destroy domisticated Christianity for the return of the powerful, gospel-driven, Holy Spirit filled Church! Session recorded on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at ParkerDC. Join us this Sunday as we wrap up the discussion on "Letters To The Church" in the 9:45 Small Group time.
God gets personally involved with the creation of man and woman! In this message from the "Origins" series, Pastor Joey looks at Genesis 2 and the creation of mankind. We discover that Moses (the author of Genesis) records God's personal name here, denoting a more personal Creator. We find out that God is not just good in creating life, but gives us so many good and perfect gifts. God is a benevolent Father! In this message, we also discuss the value of the human life (made in the image of God) as well as God's unique and eternal purposes in marriage)! This discussion needs to be done with extreme caution and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. The conversation about spiritual leadership in the church and who should lead is important. Unfortunately many Christians look for the same merits in a leader that the world does... education, attractiveness, eloquence, skills, etc. But the LORD doesn't list these things as the qualifications for spiritual leadership. Instead, He focuses on the character of a man. In this podcast we discuss the sixth chapter in "Letters To The Church". Please pray diligently for your spiritual leaders AND ask God if He is calling you to step up and lead. The model of discipleship mandates that everyone is being mentored by someone AND everyone is mentoring someone. Who are you leading? Join us this Sunday for Small Groups at 9:45 AM as we continue in this study. We will podcast again on this topic next Wednesday Night as we discuss chapter eight.
Don't lose sight of the "why" for the "how"! In this second message from the Origins series, Pastor Joey looks at the entirety of Genesis 1 as we unpack the six days of Creation. As such, we discover the Supreme AUTHOR who has the AUTHORITY over all Creation. God is the subject of Creation! We see His orderly work and we celebrate His GOOD creation. Creation provides us the initial framework to knowing God. We find His power as He takes nothing and creates something in six literal 24 hour days. We find His mastery over order as the days correspond in framing realms and then filling those realms with creation. And as a result, we should worship the God of Creation! The end result is faith! As Creator, God is uniquely qualified to turn chaos into peace in our life, taking the bad and bringing something good out of it all. Message preached on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at ParkerDC. We are to be known for our radical, unconditional love for one another! In this second podcast from our ReNew Bible Study's look at Francis Chan's book, "Letters To The Church", Pastor Joey looks at Chapter Four and this command to love one another. It's this kind of love and unity that is so impactful toward reaching the lost world. A culture that nurtures this love within will eventually begin to change the culture without! The early New Testament church embodies such community, such love, such generosity! How can we continue to build this kind of love at ParkerDC? Join us for Small Groups this Sunday (9:45 AM) as we step into Chapter Five. Join us next Wednesday at 6 PM as we continue this discussion. Podcast from January 16, 2019 at ParkerDC.
